Contender Kevin Shanahan representing the Alert Engine Company.
Weighing in at 285lbs. Looks like Kevin was having more fun getting to
where he was going rather than jumping in.
Contender Kenny Fairben representing the Reliance Engine Company.
Weighing in at 282lbs. Perhaps the eldest of the contenders, Kenny's
secret weapon is most surely experience at doing things in front of a crowd with
no regard of how foolish he may look doing this.
Contender Matt Vola representing the Active Engine Company. Weighing in
around 255lbs. Matt boasts a history of practicing in the bathtub when he
was growing up. Today could have been the the day he got the gold!
Contender John "Mongo" Kelleher representing the Hook & Ladder Company.
Weighing in at 385lbs +/- 22lbs. In boating, the heavier the vessel, the
more the displacement, which leads to better stability. Perhaps this
stability was his key to triumph!
Contender Timothy Harten representing the Rescue Company. Weighing in
at 299lbs. Originally from the shores of southern Florida, this palooka
used to practice in 1 inch of water. Although he tends to dive in, he
occasionally comes up with a nice whopper!
Contender William Watts representing the Explorer Post. Weighing in at
a mere 96lbs. A featherweight, the youngest and lightest of the
contenders, don't let the age or weight fool you. The height obtained
during the jumps was by far the highest (notice last photo carefully), and the
belly flop looked 110% pure pain! Although rumors were heard that he
practiced this for months prior to the event, these rumors cannot be confirmed.
Contender Bill Lauria representing the Village Police Department.
Weighing in at 241 lbs. This is the Floral Park's Finest can offer.
There weren't any waves in the pool after he left, he arrested them all!
Post Entry Contender "Bubbo" representing the Stewart Manor Fire Department.
Weighing in at 378 3/4 lbs. Not too much is know about Bubbo's belly flop
career, but one thing is for sure - he came unprepared for this (Village Pool
Rule #327: Swimming trunks ONLY!). But he was definitely prepared to put
up a good fight at winning!
